With ‘Nordus’, Decospan offers an accessible collection of veneered panels that plays into the trend towards a more Scandinavian and modernist interior design. We consider ourselves as a part of a worldwide community that aims to share the beauty of nature and enjoy it in an environmentally-friendly and responsible manner.
The contemporary living environment reflects our personalities and expectations in life. We aim for modern and timeless products of excellent quality with architectural shapes. Thanks to ‘Nordus’, you can experience this simple and yet practical interior trend with timeless elegance yourself.
Nordus Finishes
The simplicity of Scandinavian design and the natural beauty of typical wood types from growth areas in Northern Europe have inspired us to develop the Nørdus collection. With this collection, we also want to inspire others and encourage them to start a creative process with these natural products. For that purpose, we already illustrate a number of possible finishes throughout the brochure. In order to do so, we relied on the expertise and creativity of two partners who are specialists in colouring and protecting wooden surfaces.
Thanks to the collaboration between innovating companies that are creative with wood and finish, we put our mission into practice: develop and manufacture products based on Nordus veneer woods and make them available for both purchaser and processor.
Premium Wood Oil
You can use a wood oil to quickly and easily finish a Nørdus veneered panel yourself. Decospan Premium Wood Oil has been specially developed to maximize ease of use and application possibilities. The oil is water-based and ready-made. It should be applied in 1 to 3 layers with a long-haired roller, with or without hardener, depending on the application.
A Nordus veneered panel
A Nordus panel is composed of a top layer of real wood veneer, a core of 18 mm MDF and a backing of real wood veneer for stability reasons. The top layer is always a jointed veneer sheet in accordance with the chosen design, composed using our mix match technique. In this process, strips of veneer wood from various trees with varying cutting methods are randomly jointed into a full sheet. This way, the panel looks like solid wood. By creating a continuous surface with various panels, there is no optical interruption.
The Nordus products are always delivered unfinished and should yet be treated by the processor. For more information about the finish of Nordus, please contact Hesse-Lignal (stains and paints) and Rubio Monocoat (oils).
Ecologically
All raw materials that we purchase for Nørdus are thoroughly inspected by Decospan in advance. This way, we are sure that all the wood used originates from responsible forestry only.
On request and depending on availability, FSC®-certified products are possible (FSC-C095327). Also zero-added formaldehyde panels are possible on explicit request.
Double-sided
Double sided panels are finished on both sides with the same Nørdus veneer.
Single-sided
These panels only have the Nørdus design on the front. A veneered board must always have a backing to guarantee a good stability. More info about the backing layer can be found in the table below. The single-sided panels are ideal for applications where only one side of the panel is visible.
For projects, other dimensions and substrates are possible on request. However, for such orders a longer delivery period must be taken into account.
- Autumn & Winter Larch may occasional contain bright spots in the veneer.
- Wild Pine may have some cracks in the veneer surface due to the tension in the wood.
- Vivid Spruce may have occasionally cracks or open knots. These are never filled with wood filler.
“Nørdus” stands for unique and superior top quality. That is why you should only trust the panels which carry the Decospan marking at the side. The stamp also refers to the production date enabling a clear tracing of every panel.
For a smooth handling, Nørdus panels are always packed with a fitting cardboard protection sheet and supported by wooden blocks. For container transport, Nørdus can also be delivered on pallets!
Nordus Flex
What is flex?
Flex is a jointed veneer sheet that is very easy to process. The veneer sheet is pressed on a paper substrate first after which the wood fibres are broken. This gives us a flexible sheet of veneer that can be processed both as a flat and curved surface.
Flexibility is the main feature of this product: it is perfectly suitable for covering curved surfaces, cutting into edge bands, covering door bodies, etc.
Top layer
A Nordus flex top layer always consists of a 0.6 mm jointed sheet.
Backing
The backing consists of a paper substrate in a colour tint close to the colour of the chosen reference. The top layer and backing are glued with a formaldehyde-free glue.
“Nordus” flex is always packed in this packaging. That is why you should only trust the sheets which carry the Decospan marking at the side of the box. This is the only guarantee for Decospan quality!
For gluing the product, we strongly recommend to follow our instructions very closely. These can be found in every box.
Edge Banding
For each design, matching edge bands have been developed. This way, the edges of the Nørdus panels can be perfectly finished. In doing so, Nørdus offers a total solution allowing each project to lead to a successful end result.
All edge bands are constructed of veneer wood with a strengthened membrane, not pre-glued and packed in rolls of 50 running meters per roll. All edge bands are available in both 26 mm and 46 mm high. The Nørdus edge bands are not FSC® certified.
Apart from the edge bands in the matching wood types, we also offer the possibility to choose an edge band with the appearance of a transversally sawed birch multiplex. The fine layers that are typical for the construction of a multiplex panel match the Scandinavian interior style and give the project a pure, authentic look. Nevertheless, the stability and processability of an MDF-panel is preserved.
“Nordus” flex is always packed in this packaging. That is why you should only trust the sheets which carry the Decospan marking at the side of the box. This is the only guarantee for Decospan quality!
For gluing the product, we strongly recommend to follow our instructions very closely. These can be found in every box.
